Andrew & Nicole

Becks Safari Lodge - Karongwe

Andrew & Nicole celebrated a heartfelt safari wedding on a perfectly clear day — just 24 hours before a major flood rolled into Hoedspruit. Against all forecasts and fears of heavy rain, they were blessed with sunshine, serenity, and the wild beauty Nicole has always called her favourite place.

A celebration that blended distant continents, deep family roots, and the raw beauty of the bush.

Though they now call Australia home, Nicole’s heart has always been tied to South Africa. The bushveld has long been Nicole'shappy place. So when it came time to choose a wedding venue, there was never really a question. The African bush was where their new chapter had to begin.

Friends and family travelled from all corners of the globe to gather in Hoedspruit, ready to witness Andrew and Nicole promise forever to each other in the wild. Yet, as their wedding day approached, the forecast told a very different story: heavy rains and rising waters on the horizon. Little did anyone know that their carefully planned safari celebration would unfold just one day before a big flood swept through the region.

A Perfect Day in the Heart of the Bush

The morning of the wedding dawned calm and gentle over Becks Safari Lodge. A soft light spread across the bush as the first sounds of birdsong floated through the trees. Despite the weather warnings and anxious glances at the sky in the days before, the air felt still and full of promise.

There was a quiet excitement in the air – the sense that everyone present had travelled far, not just in distance, but in life, to arrive at this exact moment. From South Africa and Australia, to friends and family spanning continents, this was a celebration built on connection across borders and oceans.

For Nicole, there was something deeply grounding about getting ready in the heart of the bush she had loved all her life. Outside, the land told its own story – ancient, untamed, and honest. Inside, the preparations were filled with laughter, final touches, and the joyful hum of anticipation.

As the ceremony approached, everyone’s eyes turned instinctively toward the sky. The forecast had warned of rain, and in the days prior, conversations often ended with the same hopeful refrain: “Let’s pray the weather holds.” On this day, it did more than that – it offered grace. The clouds held back, and the bush gifted them with a soft, clear afternoon.

After the ceremony, the lodge became a haven of celebration. While the sun dipped lower, Andrew and Nicole wandered off for photographs among the trees and along the riverbanks, the African sky painting soft pastels above them. Every image captured seemed to hold that incredible blend of intimacy and wildness – the tenderness of two people in love, set against the timeless grandeur of nature.

Guests enjoyed the warm hospitality Becks Safari Lodge is known for, toasting the newlyweds as animals moved quietly in the distance. It was a night where the worries of the world felt far away; where only connection, gratitude, and joy remained.

Perhaps the most remarkable part of their story is what came next. Within just 24 hours, the long-forecasted rain finally arrived – and with it, the big flood that surged through Hoedspruit. Roads were washed over, rivers swelled, and the landscape changed dramatically.

Looking back, it felt nothing short of miraculous. On the one day that mattered most, the rain held off. The skies stayed open, the paths stayed clear, and the bush remained a gentle host. Everyone who had been there spoke of it the same way: an answered prayer, a blessing, and a reminder of just how gracefully the day had unfolded.

That’s what makes Andrew and Nicole’s safari wedding so unforgettable. It wasn’t only the beauty of Becks Safari Lodge, or the drama of the weather that almost was. It was the feeling that this day, this moment, was meant to be – framed by Africa, surrounded by love, and protected by a window of perfect, precious calm.

In the end, they received exactly what they had hoped for: a beautiful day in the bush, a wedding that honoured Nicole’s roots, and a celebration that brought their world together in one place, under one vast African sky.
